Lifting a Radiant Heated Concrete Floor: Shop Floor Edition.
Before:
The west side of this shop floor with in-floor heat pipes had water draining towards the south west wall. This was causing major issues for this farmer because they were using this area for heavy equipment storage, as well as a seating area for employees. Many home or business owners aren’t sure if it is possible or not to raise a floor with radiant heat, but it indeed is! A thermal imaging company was called in to map the in-floor heat pipes prior to this lift, to avoid damaging them during this lift.
After:
Slab-Jack Kings tackled this concrete shop floor lift by raising, levelling and stabilizing the west side of the floor back up by an average of 3 inches along the wall. Water from equipment stored in this area now properly drains away from the wall and towards the threshold of the overhead door, instead of the southwest wall.

Got Water Pooling In Your Garage? Here’s your slab jacking solution!
Will My Concrete Crack or Break During This Lift?
This customer’s garage floor had settled and bowled by approximately 7 inches in the centre of the floor and water was pooling in the centre. We assumed that a large void was more than likely present beneath and around the perimeter of the slab. Before and throughout the process of this large lift, we knew that some issues would present themselves. Concrete does not bend… It cracks and breaks when you try to bend it. When trying to remove a 7-inch dip or bowl in the centre of a garage floor, there are going to be cracks and breaks. In this photo, you can see where the water was ponding and where the concrete dips in the centre.
Polishing Isn’t Always Necessary
It’s a good thing that these days we have polishing and resurfacing techniques. Sometimes you just need that extra sparkle after a lift. But in most cases, it’s just a garage floor, right? If you’re using your garage as a parking space, no extra attention is needed. As long as the larger cracked areas are patched after the lift, you don’t need to worry about any water getting back down into them and ruining your newly raised garage floor.
To stop the water from pooling in the garage, all we had to do was raise, level and stabilize it enough to achieve water drainage off of the slab and out over the overhead door threshold. We conveniently completed this lift in about 4-5 hours, rather than days or weeks when you compare it to removal and replacement. Due to the foam curing completely in about 15 minutes from the time of injection, all items and vehicles of the owner were able to be moved back inside right away.

Concrete Lifting, Levelling, Void Filling & Stabilization, Driveways, Residential Projects
“Why Is My Concrete Driveway Sinking?” Should I Replace It or Raise It?
Concrete is heavy. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t indestructible! When it has nothing to support it, it settles, cracks, breaks and gives up. Unstable soils will provoke large voids and eventually, settlement. Some of the main reasons why concrete settles are:
- Improper Subbase Compaction At Time Of Pour
- Improper Landscaping/Grading
- Heavy Water Infiltration/Aggregate Washout
- Pouring Concrete When There Is Frost In The Ground
- and more.
Before: Sometimes the full package isn’t always necessary.
Sometimes your concrete settles too much to raise it back up to its original pour height. In most cases we can figure out a way to achieve a result that is satisfying enough but also provides a solution to the issues you are currently facing. A large accumulation of water was draining directly into the window well area, as well as in the corner by the house wall. Instead of raising this driveway back up to its original pour height, which would have not been economically feasible, we accommodated our lift to raise and level the driveway back up as much as we could to simply achieve drainage away from the house wall. As long as drainage was achieved, we had another happy customer! And another happy customer we had.
After: Just enough to get by.
Slab-Jack Kings raised, levelled and stabilized this driveway back up by an average of 4.5 inches to level out the garage approach, and achieve drainage away from the house wall and down towards the street.

The Cost Effective Alternative To Concrete Replacement: Foam Jacking
One of the Biggest Money Drains: Concrete
If you’ve ever built your own house or you own a small or large scale business, you already know that concrete is one of the biggest money drains. However; unfortunately, in todays day and age, you see concrete everywhere. You even don’t see it when it is there! From basement foundations and driveways, to beneath the floor you’re walking on, concrete is everywhere, and it is not cheap! It is not cheap to pour and it is not cheap to replace.
Need a Cost Effective, “Concrete” Solution?
What would be a cost effective solution to repairing your existing concrete? The answer is concrete lifting. Concrete lifting is a cost effective alternative to replacing settled and unsupported concrete.
Concrete Lifting, Concrete Raising, Slab Jacking… What is the difference?!
To start off, I’ll let you know right off the bat that concrete lifting has many different names and terms that include, but not limited to the following: concrete raising, foam jacking, slab jacking, and in our case, polyurethane foam concrete lifting and levelling.
Polyurethane concrete lifting and levelling can usually be completed for less than half the cost of replacement. This already makes it a cost effective alternative. However, in some situations, the savings may be even greater, since labour costs for demolition, removal, and landscaping can be eliminated.
Polyurethane concrete lifting achieves essentially the same results as traditional mudjacking, but with longer-lasting and more eye-pleasing results. When polyurethane concrete lifting, a much more lightweight material, that requires much smaller and far fewer injection holes is used. Also known as foam lifting, poly lifting and foam jacking, polyurethane concrete lifting is the latest and greatest concrete repair method available. It’s a non-invasive, cost effective concrete solution and it has been around for many years now!
Not only does polyurethane concrete lifting raise your settled concrete, but it also does a better job at stabilizing the aggregates beneath it. This is comparative to mudjacking because mudjacking materials do not have the same promises. By effectively stabilizing the aggregates beneath your concrete, we can eliminate as much frost heaving as possible. By eliminating as much heaving as possible, we eliminate as much settlement as possible.
How to Get the Most Out of This Cost Effective Concrete Solution
Come springtime, you might notice that your driveway is just not where it used to be. The reason for this is the frost-heave we discussed earlier on.
By catching concrete settlement in its early-on stages, you can be sure to save as much money as possible. If you notice that your driveway does not meet flush or flat with the edge of your garage floor by about an inch or even less, its in its early settlement stage. This is the time to contact Slab-Jack Kings. You might not think that its bad enough to do something about it, but after it gets down to 2, 3 or more inches, the amount of material and time needed also goes up. And it goes up just as quickly as your concrete goes down.
Simple Math: Less does NOT Equal More in the Concrete World
In the concrete lifting department, less is not more. A smaller amount of settlement means that less product is needed for your repair. Less product means less time is needed to complete your repair. To put it simply, less settlement means that there’s more money left in your wallet.
So how can we make sure this is the case? Contact us this spring for a free estimate, when your concrete settles an inch or two, instead of calling us when it is too late and unaffordable. Let’s all utilize this cost effective concrete solution to its full potential!
